How We Calculate Your Kitchen Price
If you’re thinking about getting a new kitchen, there will be one thing that affects everything: your budget. While your budget can alter the options available to you, it doesn’t have to stop you from making changes that enhance your kitchen and make it work better for your lifestyle.
At Drumoak, we work with homeowners to design and install beautiful handmade and German kitchens across a range of budgets in Scotland. In this blog we’ll go over why kitchen costs vary and how much you could expect to pay for one of our kitchens. We hope this blog helps you decide if a Drumoak kitchen could be right for you.

Factors Affecting The Cost of Your Kitchen
No two kitchens are the same, and we calculate the cost of your kitchen based on a number of different factors:
- German or Handmade
- Customisation & Finishes
- Appliances & Extras
- Installation
Let’s take a deeper look at each of these factors and why they’re so crucial.
German or Handmade?
At Drumoak we offer both German and handmade kitchens. Our German kitchens come from our trusted supplier Hacker, while we make our handmade kitchens right here at our workshop just outside Banchory.
German kitchens are built to last and amazingly functional, while our handmade wooden kitchens are truly bespoke – but how does that affect their cost?
In general, one of our handmade kitchens of a similar size and spec to a German Kitchen will cost more. This is because it’s made by hand, to your exact specifications by craftsmen at our workshop, while a German kitchen is made in Germany by highly specified precision machines at Hacker’s factory. Being handmade means more man-hours, precision and planning goes into our handmade kitchens, and so naturally the costs are higher.
A German kitchen can start from around £5,000 and a fully fitted kitchen with a quartz top will cost around £30,000 to £35,000.
A handmade kitchen can start from around £8,000, and costs can go up to more than £115,000.

Customisation & Finishes
There are endless options for the finish of your kitchen – from the colours, coatings and hardware to the material used to build your worktops. Each one of these goes into making your kitchen truly feel like home, and ensures you’ll love it for years to come.
These options also have a range of different prices – it would be impossible to list all of the variations here, but here are just some things to note:
- Quartz and stone worktops can cost more than alternative options like wood – you can read more about the pros and cons of stone, wood and quartz worktops in our worktop blog
- Hand-painted finishes and custom coatings will cost more than standard options
- Solid handles, e.g. handmade brass ones from our supplier Armac Martin cost significantly more (rom £20 up to £600 each) than more affordable stainless steel options, which are usually around £10
Appliances and add-ons

The appliances you choose will affect the cost of your kitchen. At Drumoak, we offer a variety of appliances over a wide price range, such as cookers, hobs, extractor fans and microwaves. On top of this, there are more premium options available such as boiling taps, wine coolers and self-cleaning ovens. Naturally, adding on these options will cost more, but we’ll let you know the relevant prices throughout the process.
It’s not just about appliances though – we’re passionate about making kitchens that truly fit in with our customers’ lifestyles and offer a number of extra features that can make wonderful additions to your kitchen and fit in seamlessly with your home life. These include under-shelf lighting, which can enhance a kitchen’s atmosphere and ease food preparation, and pop-up sockets that make it easy to plug in your devices and appliances when you need them.
Installation
The installation cost of your kitchen is calculated based on the complexity of the job, the time the job takes as well as the travel time.
We believe that quality installation is non-negotiable, and it’s the key to ensuring your kitchen works properly and lasts for years to come. These initial installation costs cover the work of a team that treats your kitchen like their own, and an expertly done installation reduces the risk of further costs in the future.
Cost of a Kitchen Refurbishment
If a full new kitchen seems out of your price range, why not consider a refurbishment? It can be a more budget-friendly option, and brings the spark back to your kitchen without requiring a full refit.
Again, costs of a refurbishment vary based on your requirements, but in general they will cost £7,000 to £25,000.
