A modern kitchen with white cupboards, a large central island, built-in appliances, and minimalistic décor. A bright living area with large windows and a view of the garden is visible in the background.
Large, white quotation marks on a light grey background. The centred marks, reminiscent of sleek German kitchen Aberdeen designs, dominate the image with minimalist elegance.
It just feels so much more open and light. I love being in it.

Case Study

Häcker Kitchen | Crystal White & Natural Oak | Maryculter

When this Aberdeenshire homeowner came to Drumoak, they knew exactly what they wanted – a kitchen that was clean, light and completely uncluttered, with clear worktops and everything tucked away out of sight. The brief was precise, and it shaped every decision that followed, from the choice of door finish to the depth of a drawer.

The result is a Häcker Concept 130 Kitchen with handless doors in Porto Lacquer Crystal White and Natural Fine Oak, paired with Dekton sintered stone worktops. The finished space flows into a cosy but light filled snug area, designed in the same range, the whole area framed within floor-to-ceiling windows that look out into the garden – bringing in plenty of natural daylight and a sense of openness that runs through everything about this kitchen.

Modern kitchen with a central island, four light grey bar stools, white cupboards along the walls, wooden accents, recessed lighting, and a vase with green flowers on the island. Paintings hang on the left wall.

A layout designed around how you use it

The design was built around the client’s vision of a seamless, ordered space – one that would feel open and calm whether she was cooking or simply relaxing in the adjoining snug space. That vision took shape gradually, over a number of visits to the Drumoak showroom, where designer Alison worked through the plans on screen with the client beside her, adjusting unit sizes and layouts in real time over a relaxed cup of coffee. There was no pressure to decide anything on the day – if something needed more thought, it was left open and picked up at the next visit.

“Alison would ask what I was going to put in a drawer before deciding how many to fit in – things like bottle heights and shelf depths. She thought of things I would never have considered, and there was no pressure at all. She would say, ‘You don’t have to decide today, think about it and come back.’”

A kitchen designed for everything to have its place

With the idea of everything hidden away, the handless Porto Lacquer doors in Crystal White were the natural choice – smooth, seamless and free of anything that might interrupt the surface. The Natural Fine Oak doors bring warmth to the space without breaking that clean quality, the two finishes working together to give the kitchen its calm, relaxing quality.

The pantry cupboard is a good example of how Drumoak works. The outer casings came from the Häcker range; the interior was made entirely by hand in Drumoak’s own workshop, fitted out to house the coffee machine, microwave and a stone shelf below. It keeps everything off the main worktops and completely out of sight, which is exactly what it was designed to do.

A surface that works as hard as the kitchen

Finding the perfect white worktop to sit alongside the Crystal White doors – tough enough to take a hot pan, resistant to staining and easy to look after called for some careful sourcing. Drumoak worked through sample after sample until the right one was found, eventually deciding on Dekton, a sintered stone that handles the demands of a busy kitchen without any fuss.

“They put so much effort into getting the right stone for our kitchen. They were so helpful throughout.”

When the stone was cut to fit the Bora induction hob, the offcuts were kept and finished as a pair of matching chopping boards. They sit on the worktop in the same white as the surface around them, keeping the look flawless right down to the detail.

Completing the space with the relaxing snug

From the outset, it was important for the snug to sit seamlessly alongside the kitchen. The scheme sits quietly alongside the kitchen, rather than competing with it, using the same oak and white units throughout.

A kitchen that is light, open and exactly as planned

This kitchen is clean, light and flawless in both design and appearance. Behind it is a process built on trust, patience and the kind of attention to detail that only comes from genuinely caring about the result.

“It just feels so much more open and light. I love being in it – because most things are hidden away, you don’t feel cluttered. It’s easy to work in, the layout makes sense, and it’s a pleasure to cook in.

If this feels like the kind of kitchen you have been thinking about, we would love to talk it through.
